Well, raise your hand and admit it – who still loves to watch all eight Harry Potter movies?
These films have become a childhood nostalgia for many around the world, and there are theme parks, studio tours and even a walking tour of Edinburgh itself dedicated to this wonderful series.
If you ask any little kid what their favorite character is, most of them choose the golden trio – Harry, Ron or Hermione – but the line of rebels in me should choose Professor Snape.

Listen, I love the damaged character arc!
So, let’s take a look at the Harry Potter cast, and some forgotten celebrities in the Edinburgh franchise!
Matthew Lewis – Neville Longbottom
Everyone’s favorite klutz and forgotten little soul, Neville had a 50 percent chance of becoming the lightning-scarred boy, Lord Voldemort who so desperately longed for the end.
At the time of his birth, Neville was marked by a prophecy as one of two children with the power to defeat Lord Voldemort, the most powerful and feared dark wizard in the world.
However, Voldemort’s first attempt to circumvent the prophecy by killing Neville’s later friend and classmate Harry Potter, eventually established Harry as Voldemort’s enemy.
The actor who plays Neville, Matthew Lewis, went through an extreme flare while filming the show.
His body in later films shocked many fans, as he was a short boy with crooked teeth and messy hair, and viewers were grumbling about this clumsy kid who all grew up.
Most recently, Matthew starred in a Channel 5 TV series called All Creatures Great and Small, which gained wide critical acclaim.
Evanna Lynch – Luna Lovegood
Evanna’s story in the Harry Potter universe is an emotional one, given that she was a huge fan of the books before she was cast as Luna Lovegood.
At the time of the selection, Ivana had a severe eating disorder, and would often write to Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling.
The Irish actress was then cast as the sassy Luna after waiting hours for an audition, and became a defining figure for her caring personality and light-hearted nature – and also crazy smart too!
As a vocal and proud activist, Lynch advocates for vegetarian and animal rights.
She has been involved with several non-profit organizations and launched both a vegan-themed podcast and a cruelty-free cosmetics brand Kinder Beauty Box.
Ralph Fiennes – Lord Voldemort
Ah, the most hated villain in the world! But, do you know who the actor was behind the suit and makeup?
Can you even believe that Mr. Voldemort got his start playing Heathcliff in Emily Bronte’s Wuthering Heights in 1992? A heart ahead of his time as a scaly character, is one who shouldn’t be called.
Ralph has starred in hundreds of hit movies, some of which are just 007 movies including Skyfall, Specter, and No Time to Die to name a few.
Other classics include The Grand Budapest Hotel, Maid in Manhattan, Strange Days, and even Great Expectations!
Emma Thompson – Professor Trelawney
British actress and screen icon Emma Thompson actually had a somewhat minor role in Harry Potter, playing Professor Sybil Trelawney, master of divination at Hogwarts.
Her most remarkable sight was when Professor Umbridge decided to expel her from the school, and Professor McGonagall uttered these characteristic words: “There are several things I would like to say!” – But one look of Minerva is enough.
Emma is a proponent of British film and beyond, with notable films including Love Actually, Nanny McPhee, Angels in America, Brave and most recently Cruella.
David Tennant – Party Crouch Jr.
Now, the tenth doctor in Harry Potter? of course no!
But yes, that’s right, David John MacDonald, better known as David Tennant, portrayed Bartemius Crouch Jr. in a movie adaptation of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.
Barty Crouch Jr. was a prisoner escaped from Azkaban and loyal to the Death Eater Lord Voldemort, who tried to get rid of Harry in Goblet of Fire.
Fortunately, Dumbledore was once again on hand to save the situation, and he returned the slavery man to his prison cell surrounded by Dementors.
David is best known for his shy portrayal as the Tenth Doctor on the hit BBC show, but he loves reminding people that he made cameos in the Harry Potter series a lot!
Imelda Staunton – Professor Umbridge
Now here’s the real Harry Potter villain – Professor Dolores Umbridge.
She easily became one of the most hated characters in a short period of time, picking every possible student and even describing Harry with a scar revealing the words “I must not lie.”
However, Harry gets the last word, as Umbridge begs him to tell the woodland creatures of trolls and spiders that she does them no harm.
All Harry had to say was, “Sorry, Professor, but I must not lie.” We must say absolute service!
Actress Imelda Staunton has portrayed more beloved characters in her film history and luckily, she played human rights activist Hevina Headon in the historical film Pride, and starred in the British comedy Finding Your Feet.
She has also provided voiceovers for the films Chicken Run, Arthur Christmas, and Paddington.
Robert Pattinson – Cedric Diggory
Now, the king of three great films in one actor – Robert Pattinson.
Robert portrayed Hufflepuff Cedric Diggory, who was ultimately a sacrifice to Lord Voldemort in the fifth film, Goblet of Fire.
He was a good friend of Harry, and his early death marked a turning point in the series into a darker arc.
Robert is best known for his portrayal as Edward Cullen in the popular Twilight series, and now Bruce Wayne, Batman, in the new Batman movie released in 2022.
