Android’s impact on the digital world

What is Android?

In a science fiction movie, a robot is a human-like robot that can walk, talk, and act like a real human being except that it lacks feelings and empathy.

In the real world, Android means an operating system that is applied to mobile devices, smart watches, smart TV, 2-in-1 desktop PCs, smart speakers, and many other Android compatible devices. It has been around for 15 years and has been an essential operating system for all mobile gadgets including major smart devices and their apps supporting Chrome OS and Windows 11.

Operating System

An operating system is a computer program that includes both hardware and software that make different types of hardware synergistic and provide a platform for the software.

We have two major mobile operating systems: Android from Google and iOS from Apple.
The Open Handset Alliance (OHA) led by Google and its 34 members is a partnership of developers that was established in November 2007. The Android platform is open which means it is accessible and has even been used in commercial aspects like Freispiele Ohne Einzahlung Or free spins without Deposit in English in an online casino. This kind of freedom offered by Google is in contrast to iOS.

Apple iOS has closed platforms and is limited to users only. She may not be crowd-friendly but she appreciates exclusivity. Previously known as iPhone OS, iOS was introduced in 2007 for the first generation of iPhone. iOS later supported other Apple devices such as the iPod Touch in 2007 and the iPad in 2010. iOS annually released major versions and on September 20, 2021, the current iOS 15 was released.

Popular Google Android

As of 2022, it is the most popular search engine of all time with over 2.5 billion users in over 190 countries. Global Stat’s Statcounter indicates that the worldwide operating system market share has reached over 69.74% as of January 2022 and around 2.6 million apps are available on the official Google play store. Android’s market share contrasts with iOS at 29.40%. Google is believed to have 75 percent of the global market share and holds about 85 percent of the market share in India, Brazil, Turkey, Indonesia and Vietnam.

Google Play Store

All Android certified devices have Google Play Store or Android Open Source Project (AOSP) where user can access apps like e-books, TV shows, movies, online shopping stores, digital wallets, banks, music and many more. The purpose of the Play Store is to make sure the user does not search for a specific app on the web anymore to download it to avoid viruses and cyber malware. Moreover, having the Play Store on the device makes it more efficient as compared to iOS due to its versatility, flexibility, and security.

About 2.6 million apps are available in the google Lay Store and if you can’t find a local app, you can download the app from the web. The user simply has to check its availability on the play store and can download it right away. One can find the Play Store on the home screen and apps screen of the Android device.

Additional information about Android:

Google Play Services in Android phone brings together Google branded products which include Google Play Store, Gmail, Youtube and many others.
Android is open source but the Google environment has limitations which means not all Android devices have Google Play service. For example, in China, Android devices do not have Google which means that the user in that country has to find other app stores.
Google employees are responsible for features such as the latest 5G, system update, and monitoring of Android principles and legality.

What is an Android “skin”?

The appearance of Android means that some manufacturers create software that runs on top of Android. Why does this happen? The Android operating system is an open source project that makes it vulnerable to other companies to modify their original code to change, remove or install other functionality. Hence, if a customer buys an Android phone and buys an Android “skin”, they have the same functions but have obvious differences.

Final insight:

Android is ubiquitous by nature. One can enjoy watching Netflix on Android TV and monitor their health and stay connected in social media while at the same time they can check their time while jogging through their smartwatch. Samsung mobile phone is the largest smartphone manufacturer, followed by Xiaomi and Huawei, providing news, data and updates for user needs.
