Apple (AAPL) Expands TV + Content with Kids and Family Shows

apple AAPL is expanding its collection of kids and family content for Apple TV + this summer with new original series, specials and shorts.

Starting from July 8, the company will debut ducks and geese, an animated series based on the New York Times bestselling Tad Hills books. Other offers include Best foot forward (July 22), amber brown (July 29) and Surfside Girls (August 19).

Offers include return Hi Jack! Show kindness (June 24), which will return in an all-new shorts special and four original shorts.

Moreover, on August 12, Apple will debut Lucy’s School, a new special for the peanut family. Other shows like critically acclaimed Snoopy Show (August 5) also returns with new episodes, along with the classic Peanuts titles (August 5) from Mendelson / Melendez Productions.

Apple recently signed an exclusive multi-year deal with Playtone, headed up by Tom Hanks and Gary Gutzman. Apple and Tom Hanks recently completed production of the World War II series, air cushion.

The addition of notable content creators like Hanks certainly boosts Apple’s prospects in the increasingly competitive streaming market currently dominated by Netflix, along with strong offerings from streaming services from Disney DIS and Amazon AMZN.

Apple is trying to expand its presence in different genres to attract viewers. Apple TV+ recently acquired the rights to broadcast weekly Major League Baseball (“MLB”) matches, including two Friday night games.

The announcement of the Apple-MLB deal marks Apple’s entry into the lucrative live sports market currently dominated by the likes of Disney (through ESPN and Fox Sports), NBC and CBS. Streaming service providers like Apple and Amazon are new entrants in this market space.

However, Amazon is far ahead of Apple in this scenario. In 2021, the National Football League announced a new series of long-term TV deals, including a contract with Amazon, under which the streaming service, the main video player, would become the exclusive broadcaster for Friday Night Football, starting in the 2022 season.

Meanwhile, Apple is rumored to have won the rights to Sunday Ticket games in the NFL. NFL Sunday Ticket, an out-of-market sports package, broadcasts NFL matches every week.

The acquisition of the commons rights coincides with Apple’s plans to bring live sports to Apple TV+ in order to attract new subscribers to the platform.
