1. WandaVision
Where to watch: Available on Disney+
A lot has happened to Wanda Maximoff since we last saw her on the big screen in Avengers: Endgame, all of which are explored in the weird and wonderful WandaVision series.
Losing her grief over Vision, Wanda inadvertently manages to tap into the depths of her unknown strength and truly takes on the mantle of the Scarlet Witch.
WandaVision also marks the first indication that Marvel movies and TV shows are set to cross over in a big way, so die-hard MCU fans will surely want to keep up with the latest series to keep track of the ever-growing web of stories.
2. Dr. Strange
Where to watch: Available on Disney+ and can be purchased on physical or digital media
While the Multiverse of Madness may be a sequel to 2016’s Doctor Strange, the second film’s plot doesn’t rely heavily on the original, aside from the return of Chiwetel Ejiofor’s Karl Mordo.
Saying that, there is no harm in catching up on the origin story of how Stephen Strange went from being a skilled surgeon to being one of the most powerful magicians in the world.
3. What if…?
Where to watch: Available on Disney+
Animation What if…? The series is another show leaning heavily on the concept of the multiverse and arguably its best episode focuses on an alternate version of Doctor Strange who turns to sinister tactics to save his love interest, Kristen.
As the Multiverse of Madness trailers showed, there are slated to be several different looks of Stephen Strange as well as an appearance from Captain Carter in the movie, so check out some What If…? Loops will not go wrong.
4. Spider-Man: There is no going back
Where to watch: Can be purchased on physical or digital media
Dr. Strange may be diving deep into the multiverse in the new movie, but Stephen’s first encounter with the possibility of infinite universes came in Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Seeing characters from an infinite array of universes bomb their way into his realm apparently sparked Doctor Strange’s interest in the multiverse.
5. Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame
Where to watch: Available on Disney+ and can be purchased on physical or digital media
After Thanos removes Half-Life from existence, Doctor Strange clearly wants to prevent something like this from happening again.
And as a very defining moment for the current MCU and Doctor Strange spirit, there isn’t a bad time to watch one of the most epic double-bills in all of cinema — and yes, we count these two films as one entry on our list.
6. X-Men Movies
Where to watch: Available on Disney+ and can be purchased on physical or digital media
Marvel fandom has been sent into an uproar of speculation after the arrival of the second Multiverse of Madness trailer where the voice of Patrick Stewart can be heard, hinting at the appearance of Charles Xavier.
If you’re not familiar with Patrick Stewart’s character or the broader X-Men legend, go back to any of the original three X-Men movies (X-Men, X2 or The Last Stand) or later days of the future past Not a bad place to start.
7. Loki
Where to watch: Available on Disney+
And finally, we have Loki, another series that explores the concept of the multiverse and could also have huge ramifications for the MCU going forward.
While the series may not be essential to Doctor Strange’s story in the Multiverse of Madness, doing a little extra review on the multiverse and variants won’t hurt Marvel fans.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness arrives in cinemas May 5, 2022 here in the UK.
