HP today announced an update to its ZBook Fury 16-inch workstation, which is now in its ninth generation. This comes a few months after HP announced the G9 ZBook Firefly, a mobile workstation designed for professionals on the go. Rather than focusing on navigation, the ZBook Fury focuses on packing as much power as possible with some delicious 16:10 display options and enhanced security measures.

Notably, the ZBook Fury 16 G9 comes with 12th generation Intel Core HX series CPUs. These new chips provide 55W of core performance, with up to 16 cores and 24 pins. Core i5, i7 and i9 options will be available. These powerful processors are paired with up to 128GB of DDR5-4800MHz RAM in ECC and non-ECC flavors; It is distributed over four SODIMM slots. You also get up to a silly 16TB of M.2 PCIe 3.0 SSD storage, or up to 4TB of the faster M.2 PCIe 4.0 storage. Exact discrete GPUs haven’t been announced yet, but expect options from NVIDIA RTX and AMD Radeon RX certified specifically for use with professional applications.

Here’s a look at the specs you can expect to find when the ZBook Fury 16 G9 launches.

Another notable change involves the display. It’s changed to a higher aspect ratio of 16:10 with more screen space, a trend we’ve seen on many of HP’s best laptops. The simplest one has FHD+ resolution with an anti-glare finish, 400 nits brightness, and 100% sRGB color. Another FHD+ display features 1,000 nits of brightness and HP’s Sure View that keeps people from looking over your shoulder. To increase the resolution to UHD+, there is an OLED touchscreen display with a brightness of 400 nits, 100% DCI-P3 color, and low blue light certification. And for those who need HP’s DreamColor technology, a UHD+ final option is available with a 120Hz refresh rate, 500 nits brightness, and 100% DCI-P3 color coverage.

Above the screen is a 5-megapixel infrared camera array and shutter for added privacy. The Fury 16 G9 comes with the HP Auto Frame, allowing you to move while rendering video without the camera losing focus. Dual noise canceling microphones capture your voice and nothing else. The keyboard is somewhat distinct here, adding customizable per-key RGB lighting for standard spill resistance. For wireless connectivity, the laptop comes standard with Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2. If you often travel outside Wi-Fi or Ethernet range, a 5G LTE modem is available for an additional cost.

The HP ZBook wouldn’t be complete without countless security measures to help protect your data. Along with HP’s full suite of security features — including Secure Click, Sure Sense, Secure Platform, Sure Recover, and Sure Start — there’s a TPM 2.0 chip, fingerprint reader, infrared camera, and Windows Secured Core certification.

The HP ZBook Fury 16 G9 is expected to be launched in June 2022. Pricing has not been announced yet. If you’re interested in this workstation — or any of the other HP ZBooks on the market — be sure to check out our HP Thunderbolt G4 Dock review, which is the perfect pairing.
