How to Burn DVD on Windows 11 PC

We no longer use CDs and DVDs on Windows 11/10 computers, but it’s still one of the simpler and better storage devices out there. DVD, which is short for Digital Versatile Disc, stores your data in binary format which is then converted back to its original form using a conversion algorithm. DVD is a writable disc, so you can copy files to it for storage, this is called Burn DVD.

How to Burn DVD on Windows 11 PC

Did you know that you can easily burn DVDs using your Windows PC? It doesn’t take long to burn a DVD using your computer, let’s see how. Remember that you can burn a CD or DVD only if your laptop or desktop has a DVD drive. Please also note that not all CDs and DVDs are writable, there are 6 different types of DVDs and each has its own characteristics.

  • DVD- DVD media, this versatile digital disc is much like a CD where you can only read data. You cannot burn any data to DVD media.
  • DVD + R – This DVD is recordable which means you can burn any of your data to this DVD but it will be stored permanently here. You cannot delete this data and you cannot overwrite it.
  • DVD + RW – This disc is erasable. You can erase one data from DVD + RW and burn another data. You can erase it and then record it again several times.

Burn DVD with File Explorer

You can easily rip DVD using File Explorer on your Windows PC.

  • Insert a black DVD into the DVD drive.
  • Open File Explorer and locate the files you want to burn to this disk or say, burn to disk.
  • If you are copying multiple files, select them all using the Shift key on your keyboard.
  • Right click and click Show more options.
  • Go to Send To and select the DVD drive.
  • This will open a new popup asking for the title of the disc and how you want your computer to burn that disc – using a USB flash drive or DVD player.
  • Go to the option you find best and click Next.
  • This will open File Explorer again with a notification, “The files are ready to be written to disk.”
  • Drag and drop the files you want to copy.
  • Go to the Drive Tools option in the main bar and click Finish Burning.
  • You will again see a popup asking you the recording speed and disc title. Fill in the options and click Next.

Burn DVD to Windows PC with Windows Media Player

Windows Media Player is another way to burn your DVDs. Windows Media Player can burn audio CDs, data CDs, and DVDs. To open Windows Media Player on your Windows 11 PC, open the search box and type WMP, and you’ll see the app. Click Open.

  • Once Windows Media Player is open, click Burn Tab placed in the upper right corner.
  • Don’t forget to insert a black CD into your DVD drive first.
  • Click the small arrow next to it and select options from the list – Audio CD, Data CD, or DVD.
  • Here, you can also select if you want to tweak Automatically eject after burning.
  • Drag and drop the files you want to copy into the right panel and click the Start Copy button.
