Michael Douglas’ wife gets angry at Kathleen Turner’s Romancing the Stone “naughty” | movies | entertainment

Shiny banter and physical contact between the two stars helped make Romancing The Stone a box office smash, though the studio was certain it would fail. Director Robert Zemeckis has been fired from his next project, Cocoon, based on the film’s early cuts. When Romancing the Stone took over 11 times its $10 million budget, the director was able to get the green light for Back to the Future project. The story of a mismatched romance novelist and a brilliant adventurer in search of a legendary hidden treasure flying on the back of sharp text, quick direction and support from the likes of Danny DeVito – but it’s the chemistry between the central couple that turns him into something special. In a sideshow, Channing Tatum and Sandra Bullock’s latest impersonator, The Lost City, owes an astonishing amount of plot and a main couple. I’m just saying…

Last year, Turner addressed all the rumors: “Oh, I longed, darling, but he was still married, though they broke up, and so I thought there was hope for me.”

In 2018, she joked, “We were so naughty together,” and the year before she explained, “We had such a crush on each other. At the time I was single and Michael broke up with his wife Diandra, so I thought this was a go.”

“We were in the process of falling in love – the excited looks, the longing, the intense flirtation.”

And it wasn’t just Douglas who amazed his brilliant fellow. He revealed how his father was beaten as well.

Douglas told People, “We were going to dinner and as a surprise, I said, ‘Kathleen, why don’t you pick up dad? The door opened and Kathleen was at her best.

“He was the first ‘Kirk Douglas’ jaw to fall. He was a huge fan of hers.”

Meanwhile, the attraction between the two co-stars did not go unnoticed. In fact, things became so clear that Diandra would later make his point of visiting the group and confronting the pair.

Turner said in 2017, “Then Diandra came down and reminded me that he’s still married.

“We were in a hotel in Valencia having dinner when she arrived. It gave her the opportunity to say in front of me ‘You know we’re still married and I have no intention of ending it.'”

I thought, ‘That’s it.’ The last thing I would do for another woman was interfere with it, I felt sick.

“It was so exciting to fall in love and then feel like I was kicked in the stomach.”

In hindsight, the actress also admitted that she thinks she had a lucky escape.

Turner added, “Actually, he was a misogynist. We had lunch not too long ago and it might be different now, but I don’t think he would have liked me to find my strength as his wife, so, you know, it’s probably a good thing.”

Diandra didn’t actually file for divorce until 1995. After a $45 million settlement, Douglas of course married Catherine Zeta-Jones in 2000.

He simply said of his courtship with Romancing The Stone to People magazine, “Life goes in different ways and you can’t really guess.”

Turner added, “It was that wonderful sexual tension, you know?” she says. “When you really know you want someone – and I say it goes both ways – and you can’t have it. It’s just beautiful.”

This tension was too strong, and soon a sequel, Jewel of the Nile, was triggered. The pair also got together in another great movie, the black comedy The War of the Roses, about an arguing couple.

These days, the two stars simply remain friends, without any hostility, flirtation, or otherwise.
