Sundance Film Festival 2023 has officially become a reality after two years of being online only due to the pandemic.
The historic media event is currently scheduled to run from January 19 to 29, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
However, eager fans can still watch the new movies online, as it was revealed that the festival will run both online and in person in its longtime home of Park City, Utah.
Once again: The dates for the 2023 Sundance Film Festival, which will be held in a hybrid format, have been officially announced.
The Hollywood Reporter noted that “the extent to which festival programming will actually be available has yet to be determined.”
Sundance Film Festival director Tabitha Jackson provided a statement to the media outlet to express that the event team was happy to be back on the partially in-person scene.
“We can’t wait to return to our Park City home and present exciting new work from around the world directly and personally,” she said.
Jackson went on to express that the festival organizers have fully embraced the idea of working in a hybrid format.

“We also have two years of digital exhibits and engagements under our collective belt, returning to the excitement and immediacy of live events while maintaining a strong online offering,” she said.
The Sundance Film Festival initially started in 1978 as the Utah/US Film Festival.
The Sundance Institute was later founded by Robert Redford in 1981, and the event was renamed in 1991.
Over time, the festival has become famous for showcasing works by emerging artists, and several directors, including Quentin Tarantino, Kevin Smith, and Jim Jarmusch, have taken major breaks at the event.
Clarification: Jackson also stated that, “We also have two years of digital exhibit and engagement under our collective belt, and are returning to the excitement and immediacy of live events while maintaining a strong online offering.”
Sundance’s in-person events were significantly canceled in 2021 due to the emergence of the global pandemic.
The event was moved to an online-only format that year, and the program schedule was scaled back.
The festival was expected to return to an in-person setting last year, although plans were delayed due to the appearance of the Omicron variant.
The event organizers released a statement via The Hollywood Reporter that they felt as if it would be a “huge loss if you don’t have personal experience in Utah”.

However, they indicated that, out of an abundance of caution, they would not proceed with personal events.
“We do not believe it is safe and useless to gather thousands of artists, audiences, staff, volunteers and partners from all over the world in an eleven-day festival,” they said.
The Sundance team then expressed that they remain dedicated to hosting an online event and bringing the movie community together.
We believe in the transformative power of artists and their work. Today, as we navigate whatever the pandemic throws at us, we return to what is certain: Coming together – in whatever way we can – is profound.”
