Johnny Depp Loses $22 Million Deal To Film Pirates 6 After Amber Heard Op-Ed

Johnny Depp was set to earn more than $22m (£17m) for his role in Pirates of the Caribbean 6, according to his talent manager.

Jack Wiggam, Depp’s talent manager, testified at the Fairfax Virginia Courthouse on Monday, saying that Disney film chief Sean Bailey and Pirates of the Caribbean producer Jerry Bruckheimer struck an oral deal around 2016 to pay Depp $22.5 million (£17.9 million) for the film. Sixth in French.

He added that Heard’s article had a “disastrous” effect on Depp’s career, saying: “With regard to Johnny, it was disastrous, because it was a first-person novel.

During questioning with Heard’s attorney, Wigham said the $22.5 million figure was verbally agreed but not written into the contract.

The Pirates of the Caribbean franchise has previously been talked about in court, with Depp saying he hasn’t seen the movies.

“Cartoons can get away with things we can’t,” he said of the movies.

“It’s not like you became that person, but if you knew that character to the degree that I did—because it wasn’t what the book had written, so they weren’t really able to write to him… Once you know the character better than the book, then you should Be true to the character and add to your words.

Heard is set to take a stand at trial after Depp testifies.

The trial began last month, and so far has seen Depp stand alongside various witnesses, including the former bodyguard and the former couple’s therapist.
