Apple expects persistent supply issues to continue to affect product sales in the third quarter of 2022. In the second quarter, Apple had some difficulties meeting demand for iPhone, iPad, and Mac due to supply constraints, and it will only get worse in Q3 2022.

Apple Chief Financial Officer Luca Maestri said the Covid disruptions in China and silicon shortages are making it difficult to produce enough product to meet customer demand.

The supply restrictions will cost Apple $4 to $8 billion depending on how long it takes suppliers in China to get back up and running. According to Apple CEO Tim Cook, all supply issues center around the Shanghai corridor, and while nearly all factories have reopened, it will take some time for them to return to record production levels.

As of now, the supply issues mainly affected iPads and high-end MacBook Pro models. From now on, most product categories will be affected, Cook says, and this will eventually affect Apple’s June quarter revenue.
