Another major film distributor’s production is staying within the company’s ecosystem with an agreement in the streamer fraternity. AMC Networks-owned IFC Films has signed a Pay 1 (post-theater window) directing deal with AMC+ as part of AMC Networks’ efforts to boost its flagship streaming platform.
Starting May 6, AMC+ will launch Friday night, featuring a new feature straight from theaters, every Friday, from IFC Films, IFC Midnight, RLJE Films, Shudder, and all of the series’ sister companies. Movies will be available on AMC+ 90 days after their release in theaters, and in some cases, on the day and date with their first in theaters release.
The initiative will be launched on May 6 with the crime drama Cleaning, Starring Adrien Brody and RZA, followed by Revenge Catch Fair One On May 13, Sundance photo of Riley Stearns Double, Starring Karen Gillan and Aaron Paul on May 20, banquet, From Shudder and IFC Midnight, on May 27. The last Friday of the month will be called “Last Friday” and is dedicated to a new horror film from Shudder, which will also go on to take select titles in partnership with IFC Films and RLJE Films.
IFC Films’ paid cable directing deal has been in Showtime for a long time, with Hulu joining in 2018 for the post-theatre rights to broadcast.
AMC+ launches Movie Night after a viewership spike when it introduced theatrical films on the platform last year. It is the result of a new agreement with AMC Networks Film Group, consisting of IFC Films, IFC Midnight and RLJE Films, through which AMC+ will be the exclusive streaming home of the company’s full movie slate following theatrical and digital distribution, 90 days after release.
IFC Films and its sister companies with AMC Networks purchased a total of seven films at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. Seven more films were received at this year’s SXSW Film Festival. All 14 films are associated with AMC+ through the new agreement and expanded film distribution through the streaming device.

Late last year, AMC+ experimented with exclusive streaming for the first time every Friday in November through December, spawning the three most-watched movies on AMC+ last year, led by the dark holiday feature. A quiet night From RLJE Films, starring Keira Knightley and Matthew Judd. The list outperformed the popular library’s title films in terms of viewership and acquisition, with user interaction ranking even among the best original series on AMC+, according to the operator.

AMC Networks ended 2021 with a total of 9 million subscribers across all streaming services. The company expects the number of its subscribers to reach between 20 and 25 million subscribers in 2025.
The upcoming Friday Night movies on AMC+ are:
• May 6, Cleaning, crime drama starring Adrien Brody and Academy Award winner RZA. Drifted into the orbit of a local crime boss, a garbage collector (Brody) must confront the violence of his past to find redemption on this bloody thrilling journey. Brody served as co-writer for the film and composed the score.
• May 13, Catch Fair One, A revenge thriller starring Spit Award nominee and boxing champion Kali Reis, which currently has a new rating of 94% on Rotten Tomatoes. Film directed by Joseph Kubota and Ladika follows a Native American boxer who embarks on the fight for her life as she goes looking for her missing sister. Produced by Academy Award winner Molly Asher (Nomadland) and executive produced by Darren Aronofsky (the gladiator).
• May 20, Double, Writer/director Riley Stearns’ latest release from the 2022 Sundance Film Festival, starring Karen Gillan (Doctor from) and Aaron Paul (Too bad). A woman opts for a cloning procedure after she has been definitively diagnosed. After an unexpected recovery, her attempts to get her clone out of service failed, resulting in a court-mandated duel to the death. This title appears on AMC+ just 35 days after its theatrical release by RLJE Films.
• May 27, banquet “Last Friday” exclusively from Shudder and IFC Midnight, directed by Ruth Paxton, and starring Sienna Guillory and Jessica Alexander. Dowagered mother Holly (Guillory) is put to a drastic test when her teenage daughter Betsy (Alexander) undergoes a profound enlightenment and insists that her body is no longer her own, but in the service of a higher power.
