‘It feels like The Shining’: Travel vlogs movies stay in ‘notorious’ Scarborough Grand Hotel

A YouTuber spent the night at a notorious Scarborough hotel and shared his thoughts online.

Tim London has a YouTube channel called Walk with me Tim Which has more than 58,000 subscribers, he shares guides to UK holiday spots and posts clips of the destinations he visits. In February, he visited the Grand Hotel in Scarborough, and the video has since garnered more than 450,000 views.

Upon arriving, Tim said he felt “nervous” about staying the night at The Grand due to its negative reviews and bad publicity over the past year. The hotel has faced a sea of criticism, especially last summer, from unsatisfied guests complaining about service, cleanliness, and waiting times.

The hotel has recently begun responding to comments from disgruntled guests on TripAdvisor, and has defended its staff and the hotel as a whole. Although renovations have been underway for the past few months, Tim still found some questionable things while staying at the Scarborough Hotel.

After checking in he glanced around the “impressive building” and went to his room on the 5th floor, commented on the new carpet but said that the endless corridors and strange design make it look like The Shining.

Eventually Tim finds his “too small” room, notices how he can hear the wind and seagulls through the single-glazed windows, but says his bed is comfortable and he likes the old wardrobe. He said, “I feel like I’m in someone’s bedroom. The furniture is weird to say the least.”

As reported by Yorkshire Live, Tim continued to inspect the room and found debris in the boiler and some stains on the lampshade before entering the “really large” bathroom with Jacuzzi. He commented, “Yeah, it’s sexy, but if you look closely you’ll see dirt. I mean, that’s pretty disgusting. After filling the bathroom he found that the jacuzzi function wasn’t actually working,” he commented, adding, “That was too good to be true.”

Tim went to discover that his bed’s headboard and TV had remnants of what he believed to be white paint left on them. The Youtuber was also left “disturbed” by his elevator ride when he found the panel holding the buttons held in place with masking tape.

Discovering downstairs that he was one of the few people in the hotel and entering the lounge area and rooftop terrace, he said, “You can’t deny that this is probably one of the best views in Scarborough as the sun sets.”

He then went to explore some other rooms including The Long Room and The Library, the latter of which was a “random room” filled with chairs.

Tim then heads to the hotel’s ballroom and checks out the “quirky” basement area that is full of bedrooms and so easy to get lost in. He says, “What’s weird about this particular space is that there are rooms all over the side and on top of the top as well. Weird but quirky. I like it.”

Concluding his visit, Tim said, “Let’s be honest, the hotel looks impressive from the front and from the inside looks like it needs a little TLC in some places. Mind now, a little TLC in the rooms really does have an event. They seem to have gotten a rug New, and sure enough there was a new paint job – it’s a shame they put it all over the bathroom, carpet and headboard.

“The kettle – not overly great. The shower was fine, just a shame about the whirlpool that didn’t work – I thought I was lucky for a minute there.

“The rest of the hotel, although it needs some TLC, is actually still an impressive building and you get what you pay for. I paid £25 for the night, which is fair, it’s February and not prime time so I’m sure it’s It will probably go up.”
