DreamWorks Animation’s The Bad Guys topped the box office this weekend with a staggering $24 million from 4,009 theaters in its domestic debut with a worldwide gross of $87.1 million.

Director Pierre Perifel’s $69 million debut appealed to the mom demographic, with 56% of the audience being female and 62% of whom were surveyed as mothers–according to Deadline.

The children’s book about “fixing” the criminal animals themselves currently has a “Recently Approved” monetary approval rating of 85% (out of 123 reviews) and a 93% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

The Bad Guys – based on the graphic novel series by Aaron Blaby (2015-2022) – featuring the voices of Sam Rockwell, Marc Maron, Craig Robinson, Awkwafina, Zazie Beetz, Lily Singh and Alex Borstein.

This was followed by Paramount Pictures’ live-action/animated sequel Sonic the Hedgehog 2, which earned $15.2 million domestically from 3,809 theaters in its third week with a worldwide total of $287.8 million.

Jeff Fowler’s $90 million movie—based on the Sega video game franchise—stars Jim Carrey, Idris Elba, James Marsden, Ben Schwartz, Colin O’Shaughnessy, Tika Sumber and Shemar Moore.

Sonic 2 currently has an acceptance rating of 67% by critics (out of 152 reviews) and 96% by audience on Rotten Tomatoes.
